Any suggestions on reasonable wedding photography in New Jersey?

wedding photography
Lizzie asked:

Hi. I’m getting married November 14th, 2009 and i have been researching photographers for awhile now and i can’t seem to find any that are reasonably priced. I understand that you get what you pay for and all but my budget isn’t that big. I was wondering if anyone knew of any reasonably priced photographers in New Jersey. I would appreciate any and all suggestions. Thank You :)

Although they’re not based in Jersey, they have offices in NYC–Duet Photography is great. They are reasonably priced and include a lot in their packages. They take beautiful pictures are great to work with.

Although I can’t exactly answer your question, I will say one thing. The wedding industry is getting to be a bit ridiculous when it comes to pricing things. Wedding photography is a little ‘over the top’ and you’re right. You do get what you pay for. You didn’t mention the dollar amount you were wanting to spend on photography. My husband and I were just recently married and we dropped a couple grand on the photographer simply because I figured, why spend so much money on one big party if it wasn’t going to be documented like I wanted it to? I’m not saying ‘go and spend $$$$$$ just because everyone else is doing it, I’m just suggesting for you to maybe think about the day in the future that you pull out your wedding photographs. You want to be able to feel the exact same emotions you felt on your special day.

I’m done rambling :)

First, what’s “reasonable” for you?
Second, where in NJ are you?
This is a useful website:

I live in South Jersey and am getting married in August 2009 and I’ve already gotten my photographer so i’ve interviewed quite a few. Our budget was $3000. Here are my results:

LoRusso Studios
26 Manchester Road
Eastampton, NJ
Maps/Directions
(609) 354-2351
- No one ever got back to me after 3 messages and an email

Liz Wuillermin Photography
1345 Mays Landing Rd
Hammonton, NJ
Maps/Directions
(609) 561-2844
- Too expensive for what we were looking for. Her packages start around $2.5k but didn’t include anything good until the $4k mark.

Marrero Photography
Tri-State Area
(856) 589-5674
- Started at $3k for basics, too expensive for us but really nice and communicative. They do AMAZING work!

Blue Moon Photography
Medford Lakes, NJ
(856) 371-7835
(732) 794-9569
- We instantly liked Kara, the photographer we met with. Blue Moon does only weddings and portraits. They were flexible and very helpful. We got an awesome package and they have a 3-payment plan which means it’s just about impossoble to get stiffed. You don’t pay for anything except the deposit ($200) to hold the day until the day OF the wedding. The day of (or the day before) you pay 1/3 of the cost. When you get your proof you pay another 1/3 and after you get your album you pay the final 1/3. They have a great gorup of people and offer a lot of good services. We ended up paying $3400 but what we are getting is beyond worth it!

Ana Morrongiello Photography
Mount Holly, NJ
(609) 638-2090
- Ana does mainly photojournalism. Her style was not what we wanted but her work was great. She makes nice albums and has a great personality. The biggest downfall is that she works alone.

Bella Pictures
Anywhere
- They shoot all over the country and are corporate. I know 2 people who used them. For us, they were not personal enough but they do offer nice work.

Clement Photography
700 Mildred Avenue
Somerdale, NJ 08083
(609) 209-4916
- Packages starting at $300. With Clement, you get what you pay for. They are nothing to brag about but they get the job done in a professional manner.

Hope these help! I found that using The Knot for resources was a good place to start. Also, check local photography studios in your area and look through the phonebook. And, ask around, people who’ve gotten married recently are a good resource!

Good luck!
