how do i start to fine couples to shoot wedding/engagements for free?
i’m trying to get into wedding photography after getting many complements from friends. but i need real couples so that i can start shooting. I don’t want to be the main photographer on my own friend’s wedding because I do not want to mess up.

I wouldnt say that you are afraid to mess up. I know of one other person who did this, and she had a website blog setup to show her work, then what she did was she went on to theknot.com and told the ladies in her area that she was doing free photo sessions through novemeber. This gives her a portfolio and a fan base. She is very good and i may use her for budoir photos.

Where are you located? Try putting ads in your local papers in your area. I can help you out but need to know where you are. I already have a wedding photographer but can still help you out.

I would not imagine it would be too hard to find couple who want a photographer for free. Ask around, see if your can get an apprenticeship with a photographer to get some experience under your belt.

I would have let you photograph our wedding, but it was this past May.
Put an ad in Craigslist close to the area you are in and work. I´m sure you´ll get lots of calls.

When looking for people to work for don’t tell them you’re afraid to mess up. Advertise in newspapers and around colleges. A girl I know got someone to take the pictures for free and then only had to pay for the developing and prints because the photographer had never done a wedding before. Consider at least lowering your price. A lot of older college girls are getting married, don’t have much money and are looking for a deal but someone who can take pictures. If you don’t have one, create a portfolio of your work and maybe some portraits you’ve done before so you have something to show prospective customers.
