How much did you pay for your wedding photography for the day?

wedding photography
AngelBaby asked:

I’m considering highering an amateur who takes pretty good pics and she says she’ll charge me only $700 and provide me with a CD with all of my images. She’ll cover the hour before the wedding, the wedding and the recepetion for a couple hours. A total of about 5 hours or so. What do you think?

We didn’t have a professional photographer…couldn’t afford one. We had a friend who took video for us and then family members took pictures with their own cameras.

Around $3,000. Another good idea for some good pics is putting disposable cameras on all tables during the reception.

I found a great deal for $700 for 7 hours! Her photos are so beautiful I can’t wait. Plus I don’t think I’ll need her for 7 hours but we’ll see. I think I’m getting a good deal because everyone else I found was at least $1000.

Nothing we used our own camera and took all our own photo’s. Our wedding car driver took them for us as he was just standing around any way so he offered we spent hardly any thing and had the best day ever.

I´m a British professional photographer, you´d be looking at paying between 600 and 1500 in England, no idea about America. If you want the entire day covered from getting ready, to leaving the party, you´ll pay a lot. You´re photographer may want an assistant which will add more, but it´s worth it, because one person can´t cover the entire day by themselves, they could miss quite a lot of opportunities. Good luck finding a good photographer and have fun on the day! xxx

Not much. We bought a dozen disposable cameras and handed them out amongst the guests. We got lots of great pictures taken throughout the day. It’s well worth doing at the reception even if you pay for a wedding photographer as well, because you’ll see things later that you actually missed on the day.

If you’re getting reprint rights that sounds pretty good, but make sure she knows how to take pictures. Being able to frame & snap good photos isn’t enough - even some professional photographers don’t quite get the “ninja” idea, and are quite noticable to guests. An amateur is less likely to remember to stay out of everyone’s way.

You are getting a GREAT deal!!

We paid $3,000.00 for the same coverage, but that included the engagement pictures and 2 photographers for 9 hours of wedding day time.

Oh, the pictures were PHENOMENAL!

My suggestion would be to hire a photography student…they are eager for work to expand their portfolio and they are usually a lot cheaper…and I have always liked the idea of passing out disposable cameras to guests at the reception…it gives you a chance to see different aspects of your special day that you didn’t get a chance to see

My cousin who is an amateur took ours for us as our wedding gift and they turned out beautiful. I think you’re getting a very good price at $700. Good luck on your big day!

We paid $60 for ours, which was the cost for our photographer to attend our reception as our guests. We had 2 friends cover our wedding. 1 male and 1 female. She came round to mine about 3 hours early, cos we are best mates. We have so many pictures of those 3 hours, let alone the wedding!!! I think we ended up with a total of 7 DVD length discs of pictures. Our problem now is that they are all so fantastic, we still havent decided which to print out large! 8 months later, lol.

Mine will cost between $2000.00-$5000.00 for a professional. The price difference depends on whether I want them for the whole day or just the ceremony and the formal pictures.

Thats a good deal money wise, but I did the same thing and I wish I hadn’t.
I paid $1500 (cheap for our area) for 6 hours, I got rights to all my pics and even a DVD….but it was clear she was an amateur. The pics turned out OK but their quality was not the best, the colors were off and alot of our pics were out of focus and some of the shots of we wanted we never got b/c she said they didn’t come out right. There are a few pics where we all were so pale, we looked like corpses. Honestly, I wish I had went with someone more experienced. Around here a good photographer is about $2500-$3500 but there pics are worth it. I had a friend also take pics just b/c she had bought a new camera and wanted to try it out, and hers came out SOOO much better than the photographers. She took alot, we have more of hers around the house than the the ones we paid for.

My advice, its your wedding and it only lasts for a few hours, get someone who is experienced b/c you cant go back and redo it. = )

Congrats and good luck!!

A lot of this depends on where you live. We paid $3500 for our wedding photographer for 6 hours in San Diego, but this also included book bound albums. I live in Oklahoma and I’m a photographer and I start off at $1000, which includes an engagement session and that’s it, no prints or CD. I charge an extra $300 for the CD. $700 is a good price but you have to be careful with wedding photographers when the deal seems too good. Just make sure you’re happy with their portfolio.
