I want to pursue photography as a career later in the future. I am 16 now. Any tips/advice for me?
I really love beautiful things and I want to pursue wedding photography. Any tips? advice? on getting started or thinking ahead. Thank-you.

If I wanted to pursue a job in photography, I would get a fairly good camera and start taking picures of everything. nature, people, weddings, still lifes, anything I could think of, just to get as much experience as I could. I would also talk to a good wedding photographer and get some advice from them.

Check into your local community college and see what they offer…my boyfriend goes to our tech school for photography, and he’s graduating in May with an associate’s degree. Its not expensive, and its a great program. And definitely start practicing now! It takes a lot of talent to do well and make a living in that field.

I’m not sure how long you mean by “later in life”, but pursue your dreams for the future by acting on them now. I have done photography for several weddings and found that its not my cup of tea, mainly due to the pressure of getting everything just right. But I am working on a nature photography business while doing something else now. When it takes off, I should be financially ready for it.
I got into photography several years ago by attending a class at a local botanical garden. From there I joined a local camera club. This club had monthly meetings with guest speakers giving all sorts of interesting photographic topics. I also found several good books on photography basics. One of the best was titled “Understanding Exposure” by Bryan Peterson. Amazon sells it for about $17. It gives an excellent overview of the basics of photography and is an easy read with a lot of relevant examples.
You might also look into short term photographic studies such as those offered with the Rocky Mountain School of Photography (RMSP). You’ll find them on line and they offer a variety of classes from a few days long to several months.
Photography, like any creative occupation, is not an easy way to make a living. However, it can be a great hobby or a secondary job, until business gets good. Start drumming up contacts and business saavy now, it will really help you later!

work at a place like Pro-Ex or Ritz Camera. My friend started out there and then became a portrait photographer and now she is working for a local paper as a photographer. good luck!
