Wedding photography documents?
I am booking my first wedding as a photographer and I am meeting the couple for the first time next week. I was just wondering if anyone could give me some insight as to what proper documents I will need the couple to fill out? Any information would be helpful…thanks so much!
Kmott that would be great. I got married July of ‘07 but wasn’t even thinking about it and threw them away! If you could do that I would appreciate it!

when you type up the documents you should make them look as professional as possible. i’ve seen contracts that are just torn from wide ruled tablet paper….very tacky
not that you would do this, but hey, it’s a thought

You need a contract that has EVERYTHING in it, to protect yourself and your clients from any possibly situation. Also, it is helpful to make up a “Wedding Day Details” sheet for the bride and groom to fill out. This has times, locations, requests, etc on it so that you know what will be going on ahead of time. If you would like, you can go to my website and download our contract and details form and take ideas from that.

You have to layout in specifics what is going on.
Mine I made the bride and groom sign off that I can use any of the photos i take as an adevertisement for my services, and that they will not be shared in any other way. But in order to use them in a protfolio make sure you have them sign a sheet that says its okay (like a model release.)
Make them sign off on the exact services you will provide, things such:
Do they get all of your negatives and all of your photos or do you keep them and not allow them to do reprints except through you?
How many photos will you print for them? Will you make an album or are they expected to print their own pics from the negatives and do their own album.
How long before they should expect their photos? How long will you be with them on their wedding day? How many locations do you allow? Is there one or more photographer? How much will it cost them? When do you expect money, or down payment?
Hopefully this helps.

You will have a contract for the clients. There are several things you need to state clearly on the contact. I don’ tknow all but here are some, they are not listed in any particular order of importance:
-limited liablity clause
-schedule of payments and amounts
-coverage time
-name of venues
-list any “gifts” you are giving them such as photos, books, etc.
-copy right info
-print prices
-disputes resolutions
-time frames
-expectations

Google wedding photography contract forms and you will find examples, many are downloadable. If you’re going to do this for a living, you really should have an attorney at least go over any contract you come up with.

If you would like I can email you the scanned copies of the docs I filled out for my photographer. Just let me know. :0)
Otherwise you need to ask for locations for ceremony and reception as well as any other locations they want to take pics at. Home info and numbers and have them sign a contract verifying the amount agreed upon to pay. Things like that.
I don’t have your email so email me something and i will send the docs back.
