You will need an enlarger and other darkroom supplies if you want to print the negatives. That would be enlarger, enalrger lens, negative carrier, safelight, timer, contrast filters, and a print tube if you were to attempt color. You would also need a paper easel and paper cutter. This is what I can think of off the top of my head.

For film you will need to purchase the necessary chemicals meaning you will need film developer, stop bath and fixer. Some people use a hypo-clearing agent after the fix to speed film washing. To insure a streak free negative you will need photo flo which helps the film dry without watermarks or streaks. You will probably need a good timer so you can accuratley time each step. A good thermometer is a must as temperature of the chemicals need to be within a certain range.

The kit seems a bit spendy to me. I would price the stuff out like at BH Photo or Adorama or even Freestyle Photographic Supplies and see what it would cost. If you have other questions feel free to email me.

Hello Katie.

I think the “kit” you referenced is over-priced.

To get a complete list of everything you’ll need to set up a darkroom, buy a copy of the Kodak Black & White Darkroom Data Guide.

Another excellent book is “Object & Image: An Introduction To Photography, Third Edition” by George M. Craven. It not only covers processing and printing but is also an excellent photography learning experience.

enlarger w/ timer
easel
sink with faucet
darkroom light
printing filter,
squeegee
tongs
graduates (to mix the chemicals in)
bottles (to store said chemicals)
clips (to hang photos to dry),
timer
dust free environment to hang negative as it’s drying
loop
focusing scope
glass to make contact sheets
negative sleeves
thermometer (if not in kit)

That’s off the top of my head. Think I covered everything.
