Whats an average price on wedding photography?
Getting married this summer, and have a few appointments this weekend with some photographers, and was curious what the average price everyone pays for this stuff is.
Thanks!
Just wanted to add, the photographer we really want is about $3000, but a few people told me thats outragious. Wasnt sure if thats the case or not. Also, live in the Portland, OR area.

That depends on which kind of service you want. Many beginning people will charge only developing fees for their photos (about $100 - $200) because they are trying to build up a good portfolio and a good reputation. If you want someone very experienced or well known, you can expect to pay $500 to $1000 and up, depending on where you live.
PS. Congratulations!

Wow. I can’t believe what I am seeing? Are we talking about American dollars?? Anyway, congrats!! I am getting married in June myself and we have a photographer…he is a distant family member and is giving me a great rate. I am paying about $900. I don’t know where you live, but I live in New York State and everything is more expensive here. My friend said she was searching and the cheapest she found was $2,500. It’s crazy I know!! Good Luck!

It will vary greatly depending on the cost of living where you are. (Photographers have a mortgage and taxes just like everyone else) Our packages start at $1200 and go up to $5000. And, yes, I know it seems like a lot of money for what, at first, appears to be one day’s work. But! I’d like to point out that the photographer’s job is NOT done when you guys climb into your limo to drive away. Not only does he have to pay for his equipment, there’s the cost of film and developing. Portra film isn’t cheap, and a custom lab doesn’t do his rolls in an hour for $7.00 each. If you ordered an album, those cost money- an Art Leather album can easily be $1000.
And while I’m defending photographers, I’d like to point out that after the honeymoon’s over, your images are your first family heirloom- your picture are the first material thing you’d save if your house were on fire…
You won’t have the wedding cake in an hour.
You won’t own the reception hall after the night.
You don’t get to keep the limo.
If you’re like the rest of us, the wedding dress shrinks.
But your pictures…those are your memories….your moments.
Find a photographer you like- and your pictures won’t be a “commodity”….and the bill…it won’t hurt so much.
Best of luck!

It depends on place country, locality and importance of the bride and groom. Even average is difficult to measure out, in italy it may be 800 to 1000 euro.

I don’t know of any rules that you should take into account, but everyone I know spent around $600.00. That seems to be the norm.
