Too much. And photography is so easy now these days. The camera basically takes a perfect picture by itself. I’m sure she won’t go for it (unless you’re the her), but buy yourself a very expensive SLR camera ($1200) and have drunk uncle Larry go to town with the pictures. You will find that 25% of them will actually turn out very well. Buy yourself a good piece of software or a mac ($1000) which will allow you to make a great photo book and do it yourself. At the end of the whole thing you have spend the same amount of money as you would for a profecional, but you got 2 great gifts out of it. Take it from me, that if it comes from you, it will be the best.

Erudite if you lived here I would do it for free, I own top of the line Nikon SLR, with a nice selection of VR lenses, and a high quality video camera with cinematic lens.

On average $1500-3500 depending of your area and the package selected.
